   Our story Vatche Cherchian and Katie are racing the HYROX Mixed Doubles at ExCeL London on Thursday 3 December 2026, and they're doing it for the children of Vanadzor, Armenia.   As a HYROX doubles team we'll run 8 km together, 1 km at a time. Between each run we'll share the work at eight stations: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. It will hurt. That's the point.   Every metre we cover is for a simple goal: £2,500 ($3,300 USD) to buy school supplies for 200 children from 90 families. These families are supported by two centres in Vanadzor: · The Ada Keshishyants Day Center for Children with Developmental Disabilities. SOAR opened it in 2023 as the first centre of its kind in Vanadzor. It serves children with developmental, intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities. · The "Lusastgh" NGO centre, which has supported people with disabilities in the region for more than 25 years.   For many of these families, the cost of notebooks, pens, bags and learning materials is one pressure too many. For the eighth consecutive year, the Armenian Autism Parents Support Network (AAPSN) and the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR) are partnering together to raise crucial funds for the Erazanki Tun (House of Dreams) Center located in Artashat, Armenia. Established in 2019 in Artashat, the Erazanki Tun Center is a nonprofit daycare center for children with special needs. Thanks to your generosity, AAPSN raised $2,100 in 2019 to help establish the Center and $1,775 in 2020 to fund the purchase of a heater/air conditioner unit, utility payments, teacher fees, and tuition for needy students. In 2021, $5810 was raised to fund: repairs/renovations to the parents waiting room, new physical therapy room, and restroom; purchasing tables, chairs, a storage closet, kitchenware, lamination equipment, and physical therapy equipment; and tuition for ten students from low-income, single parent, and large families, including two families from Artsakh. In 2022, $6,129 was raised, 2023, $3,700 was raised to cover tuition for low-income families as well as single moms, equipment and developmental games were purchased, and security cameras were installed on the premises. 2024, $2,270 was raised to cover tuition for low-income families, and last year $6,523.88 was raised to build an indoor climbing area. Below is the proposal: “House of Dreams” NGO restorative therapy center. Initiator – Tatev Mehrabyan , Director of “House of Dreams” NGO. Location Ararat Province, Town of Artashat. Duration of proposed funding program 2025 2026. Main objective iss to build a modern therapy center with swimming pool to provide therapeutic services for special needs children with an aquatic therapy department. The center will serve Ararat and surrounding provinces special needs children’s population. Basis for the project is that such a modern facility providing complete special need therapy services including aquatics component, does not exist in the region currently. Majority of children are not able to take advantage of such services due to transportation or financial barriers. “House of Dreams” has been actively and effectively carrying out their activities for the last 6 years and has been able to help hundreds of families. The center also has a very important role in creating employment opportunities and inclusive environment in the community. Main components of the project. 1. Building the main structure of the center and furnishing it as well as conforming to all safety requirements. Ramps, elevator, handicapped accessible bathrooms, therapy rooms, group therapy rooms, observation room. 2. Creation of aquatic therapy department. Systems for cleaning and keeping the pool water warm as well as specialized therapy equipment. 3. Furnishing of specialist therapy offices and obtaining adequate technical inventory and equipment such as therapy devices as well as diagnostic tools and supplies for speech therapy, psychological therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and adaptive physical education. 4. Continuing education of therapists, professional development, training, certification programs, collaboration with local and international specialists.  Initial budget. Project estimated costs. 1. Building of the center main structure (see below) – 80,000,000 AMD 2. Aquatics department, equipment, heating. 25,000,000 AMD 3. Furnishings and equipment of therapy rooms. 15,000,000 AMD 4. Training and continuing education. 5,000,000 AMD 5. Project management costs and documentation costs, building permitting 5,000,000 AMD Total cost 130,000,000 AMD   Expected results. A new fully equipped modern therapy center in Ararat Region. Minimum of 150 children per year will be able to receive complete therapy services. 10-12 new employment opportunities for specialists. SDR is a neurosurgical procedure that selectively destroys problematic nerve roots in the spinal cord to allow patients that suffered brain hypoxia during childbirth and cannot walk on their own, such as Angelina, to walk independently. In 2023, the family learned that Angelina needed a second surgery. Because Angelina's legs were spastic until the age of 7, her left leg developed poorly, so Angelina developed asymmetry of the legs.  This problem worsened after the SDR operation, which prevents Angelina from standing on her own.  The operation is called SPML and was performed on September 12,2023, in Summit, New Jersey, by Dr. Roy M. Nuzzo, the creator of this method. The selective percutaneous myofascial lengthening (SPML) surgical procedure is a minimally invasive method designed to improve ambulation by lengthening contracted musculoskeletal tissues. SOAR held a 2nd campaign for Angelina raising all the funds needed for her to have her operation and paid for the accommodations for the family in St Louis.  The family has learned that a third operation is necessary! The cost for the surgery and rehabilitation is $48,000.   Currently, she can walk short distances unassisted using stable ankle orthoses. She exhibits a crouching gait and bilateral spastic valgus flatfoot. Clinical examination reveals weakened calf muscles, likely due to previous interventions and inadequate rehabilitation. Mild supination stiffness is noted in the left upper limb. The surgical plan includes performing a Grice procedure on both sides to correct the valgus flatfoot. This will improve the support function of the feet, reduce the severity of the crouching gait, and increase independent walking ability. Postoperatively, Angelina will be able to attend school using an SMO orthosis and additionally wear ankle orthoses at home. THE SURGERY INCLUDES:  A team of surgeons led by pediatric surgeon Nikolaos Rigopoulos  Anesthesiologist services Surgical suite Consumables Surgical supplies Two-day stay (double room) Preoperative examinations (physician consultation, complete blood test, chest X-ray, cardiac check-up, two transfers from your accommodation* and back). GMTP services include: organizational matters, translation of medical documents before and during your stay, and upon completion of treatment, interpreter services during medical consultations and examinations, assistance and translation in emergency situations at the clinic, etc. THE REHABILITATION TREATMENT PROGRAM INCLUDES: 8-week (56 days) accommodation in a fully equipped apartment in a resort area (patient and accompanying person). Consultation with a rehabilitation specialist, orthopedist, and neurologist, as well as a cardiology check-up. An individualized treatment plan based on doctor recommendations. Individual sessions using classical and modern methods tailored to the patient's needs and capabilities. Consultations with physiotherapists and occupational therapists from the Anagennisi Rehabilitation Center. In-home consultations with physiotherapists specializing in modern rehabilitation methods, including the Bobath method, spinal curvature correction, motor function restoration, and proprioception development. Sessions that may be included: Physiotherapy: McKenzie, Mulligan Concept, PNF, therapeutic exercise, kinesiotaping, kinesitherapy, sensory integration method, Bobath, etc. Occupational therapy using classical methods and modern equipment (Nirvana, interactive screen, etc.) Hydrotherapy upon recommendation of an orthopedist Individual home sessions (using modern techniques to improve gait patterns and muscle dynamics) Psychological, neuropsychological, and cognitive counseling (additional fee). Social adaptation, training in everyday life skills. Use of modern rehabilitation systems and devices: Nirvana, Snoezelen, etc. Transfer to and from the rehabilitation center.   GMTP Services: Assistance in selecting the best doctor and suitable clinic/rehabilitation center. Children with SMA die slowly, rarely reaching two years of age. SMA attacks the nervous system, causes muscle atrophy, and as a result, the spine curves causing severe restrictions with breathing.  But there is hope for Ada. One shot of Zolgensma can help treat, and even, cure her if received in time, but it costs $2.125 million. Novartis, the drugmaker of Zolgensma, has refused to lower the price despite the family's pleas. *SOAR BELIEVES IN MIRACLES & TOGETHER WE WILL SAVE ADA'S LIFE* Living in Kislovodsk, Russia, her family and friends are doing everything they possibly can to raise funds to save Ada. Given the exorbitant cost of Zolgensma, they are unable to cover the cost of the treatment on their own. Many parents living in rural areas are unable to afford care in Yerevan and are compelled to keep their special needs children at home. Thanks to the Erazanki Tun Center, not in Artashat!  In 2019, the town of Artashat gifted the Center a building to serve as their new home, with no rent obligation. However, the building is still in great need of renovation. As more repairs and renovations are completed, the Center will be able to service more and more children and families who desperately need their services.  Our fundraising goal this year is an ambitious $10,000 for further repairs at the Center, building an indoor climbing area, and continued support of needy children and families by offering services for free. Angelina Petrosian turned six in June 2022. She suffered brain hypoxia during childbirth and cannot walk on her own. She has been learning to walk during the past few years, and has been treated in numerous rehabilitation centers, but the spasticity in her legs has not resolved.   My father, Mardig Herculian, was from Anjar, Lebanon, and died there unexpectedly in 2006. He traveled to Anjar every year, where we still have a house and enjoy time with his relatives. He always returned in October in time for my birthday.  In 2006, he suddenly fell ill and since the war had started with Israel, he was turned away from the hospital.  My cousin called me on a Sunday night and told me that I needed to come now if I wanted to see my father before he died. By God's grace, my brother, mother, and I were on a flight to Damascus less than 24 hours later and literally walked across the bombed-out border to Lebanon to see my father. My father was alive for another 12 hours before dying in our home that night.   Mardig was an educator all his life and taught in Ethiopia, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and California. Mardig died in Anjar in 2006. Both Mardig and Diana have been teachers at the school in Anjar. Diana has also been a steadfast supporter of children’s education, starting with her own children.   Diana and Mardig left Saudi Arabia in 1986 to offer the American Dream to their children, which included an opportunity for higher education. Varant earned his BA from San Luis Opispo and his MBA from UC Irvine. Talar earned her BA from UC Irvine and her law degree from UC Hastings.   As a lawyer, I am trained to be skeptical and charities are no exception. I was determined to find a charity I could trust to deliver funds to the intended recipients without wasting money. I was fortunate to discover the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR) which I have been personally supporting for more than 12 years.   I run every year to keep my father's memory alive and pay it forward. This year I will be running in the Salt Lake City 10K.  All donations from my run will go towards the Diana and Mardig Herculian Center in Lebanon. The Center currently has 19 children enrolled between the ages of 6 and 11.
